“Societies that celebrate slavery can never explore growth. A job is a form of slavery; it’s high time we stop romanticizing one.”
We often neglect the mental health aspect while hustling for our goals or searching for a job. What we look after is money, status or probably the other sort of facilities. It becomes too late when we realize that the job we are in is actually soaking our energy. When it starts affecting your mental health, don’t waste time searching for some good reasons for leaving a job on google. Just resign it without having any second thought.
Human evolution is a result of survival challenges and our actions to overcome them. The modern lifestyle revolves around money. In such a scenario when competition is so high and survival is becoming tougher, jobs appear as a solution here. However, getting a job has its own toughness too. We will definitely talk about that in a separate blog. But while talking about dreams, it’s very hard to pursue dreams or passions in a developing country like India; specifically for someone who belongs to a middle-class family. Money appears as a deciding factor here. So, resigning from a job becomes quite difficult for someone from a middle-class background even after not liking it at all. In a typical Indian society, getting a job becomes a prime objective of education. Risk-taking is not at all celebrated in traditional Indian societies. It has its own reasons too. Students study really hard to get a good college first and then a lot of hard work to get a high-paying job. It becomes very depressive for someone if the workplace turns out to be a toxic one after joining. It happens, but again money appears as a deciding factor here. Resigning is challenging. But if it’s becoming too much to handle mentally; just quit it. There have never been this many opportunities.
Leverage the Internet:
The Internet is the biggest mystery of the 21st century. Talking about the generations, the gap is becoming shorter. There was a time when a generation used to be for 30 years or 20 years. But now, the gap is decreasing. The latest generation we have is Gen Z, the year bracket of which is considered from 1997 to 2015. You can see the gap becoming shorter comparing with Millennials(1981-96), Gen X(1965-80), and Baby boomers(1955-64). What can be the reason behind this? Yes! You are correct, the Internet. The internet has revolutionized the way we consume information, knowledge, and the way we communicate with each other. The world is nowhere that big now. Anyone and everyone can be contacted in just a span of a second. It’s up to you how much you can leverage out the opportunities created by the Internet.
Freelancing:
You might have heard the word ‘freelancing’ if you are active on social media. Freelancing is becoming highly popular now. People are quitting their high-paying corporate jobs to pursue freelancing. The mindset can now be seen changing from being job seekers to becoming independent in the real sense. Freelancing is all about offering something as a service on which you are an expert. It can be both in a b2b format or a b2c format. The only thing that is required is skills. If you are skilled at something, you will be successful. And yes definitely you have to do some pitching effort. There is no limit to how much you can earn through freelancing. Forget the money, the biggest advantage of freelancing is the freedom. You don’t have to report any looser boss or follow any pre-defined office schedule. You can work from your home, from the mountains or from beaches. Who does not want to have such kind of life? It’s high time you start building one.
And for learning any skill, you have tons of resources. Don’t go for the paid ones. YouTube has everything. Try to leverage YouTube, Linkedin, Reddit, or even Clubhouse. The app 'clubhouse' is great in terms of link building. Try to leverage the best you can out of all these online resources.
I want to quit my job:
Meet anyone in the corporate world. Most of them will likely say this line, “I want to quit my job”. We used to think about being successful and doing some cool stuff after academics. We used to think about doing something innovative and creative after academics. Then life throws us into jobs and all our ambitions start seem vanishing. There is very little chance that you will be working on some innovative and creative projects just after joining any company. Most of them follow a repetitive structure. It will be a repetitive process and no repetitive process can ever satisfy your soul. It's only creativity and innovation which can offer you a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment and trust me no job can offer you that. Working under someone for another once can never give you any sense of freedom and happiness. We get a sense of that just after joining any company. But money appears as a restriction here and we keep staying in that toxic job for years. This can be disastrous for you, for your mental health.
See, where we are doing the mistake is not choosing toxic jobs, but not keeping mental health at the top of our priority list. Money, status, or facilities, nothing is more important than your health. You need to have the courage to take that big risk. It’s the 21st century and there is no scarcity of opportunities. You just need to explore more that’s it.
The mindset:
Our elders used to work for survival followed by status. The present generation is not at all after status and survival. They are after living a quality life full of freedom and flexibility. As the mindset changes so are the ambitions. Having a venture of your own can be the best thing in the 21st century. Everything is available online. You just have to have a creative mind and the urge to learn new skills. Anything you do that can give you financial freedom along with satisfaction or fulfillment is far better than being at a job of whatever kind of package. The world is changing and you will be left behind if you don’t focus on learning new skills. The only thing I can say is to make the notice of quitting ready with you and move a step closer to your dream life.
